AI example – object detecting glasses

The example that I have chosen is a device for helping people who are visually impaired to navigate their environment.   The device consists of a spectacle frame with a front facing camera mounted on the inside of the frame.

The camera is attached to an Arduino (or similar micro-computer ) which is worn on a belt.  The camera can then detect objects in front of the wearer and the software will respond by producing a signal (either a beep or audi output) which will warn the wearer of an object in their path.

The reason that I have chosen this example is that this device is so simple in it’s design that it should be able to be produced by any high school student and would make a great Digi-Tech project.   Information can be obtained by searching for “Object-detection glasses”.
