Hello from Bill Kerr. I’m a teacher at St Philips College in Alice Springs. AI: What are its advantages and limitations? Machines can be used to do things to benefit us but then, does the programmer or seller of the machine, understand what it is that benefits us? I just found out that the founder of the term AI, John McCarthy, apparently didn’t like that term because it led to confusion. But previously he had called it “complex automata theory” and no one was interested. So, what do I hope to gain?: critical insights into the brave new world.
