Computer Vision: Edge Detection

Edge detection involves analysing an image to identify the edges that define the shapes of things within the image, for example the outline of a car, or a chair. I understood how machines with AI detect edge by a worksheet given under CS Unplugged in the course.

I looked at two neighboring pixels and took the difference between their values. If it’s big, this means the colors are very different, so it’s an edge. The grid above is filled with numbers that represent a gray scale image. I successfully detected edges the way a computer would do it. If the values of two neighboring squares on the grid differ by more than 50, I drew a thick line between them.

I got the following star edge.
