Explain what you think are some of the key differences between cyber security, cyber awareness and cyber safety. To what extent are you teaching these in the classroom or to what extend do you think they should be taught and why?

Primary students need to be taught safe practices for using the Internet. They need to understand the three different concepts to internet safety, cyber security, cyber awareness and cyber safety. These may all seem to be the same thing to primary aged students therefore an explanation that can help students recognise the difference needs to be produced. As education relies heavily on the use of the internet and these children will go through life continuing to use the internet for different reasons its inly reasonable for them to learn the difference. The extent to teaching this is enough that a student can give and example for what each of the three concepts means and that they can justify their answer with an explanation.

Cyber security: Students may be familiar with the security message that blocks them from accessing websites. Do the students know this is a type of cyber security and what does it do?

Cyber awareness: Are students aware of what can happen on the internet if they aren’t protected against specific things? What might happen without security, awareness, knowing why this is important?

Cyber safety: How do you keep safe? How do you know a website is safe? What can you look for to know it is safe? What to do and not to do?
